Join us for a relaxed chat about a different Sci-Fi or Fantasy title every month!

This month, we’ll be reading Solaris by Stanislaw Lem, an absolute landmark in the development of modern science fiction.

When Kris Kelvin arrives at the planet Solaris to study the ocean that covers its surface he is forced to confront a painful, hitherto unconscious memory embodied in the physical likeness of a long-dead lover. Others suffer from the same affliction and speculation rises among scientists that the Solaris ocean may be a massive brain that creates incarnate memories, but its purpose in doing so remains a mystery…

Solaris raises a question that has been at the heart of human experience and literature for centuries: can we truly understand the universe around us without first understanding what lies within?

How long does each book club last?

Each book club is an hour and a half, ending around 8.30pm.

Does the discount have to be used against the book club title?

No! If it’s a book you already own, you can use your discount on any other book in the shop. Simply pop in with your proof of purchase and we can sort that for you.

Do I have to finish reading the book before coming along?

Ideally, but no! If you can’t, or don’t want to, finish the book, we still want to hear your thoughts. We will however spoil every aspect of the book during discussion.
