Our book this month is: Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto.

Kitchen juxtaposes two tales about mothers, transsexuality, bereavement, kitchens, love and tragedy in contemporary Japan. It is a startlingly original first work by Japan’s brightest young literary star and is now a cult film. When Kitchen was first published in Japan in 1987 it won two of Japan’s most prestigious literary prizes, climbed its way to the top of the bestseller lists, then remained there for over a year and sold millions of copies.

How long does each book club last?

Each book club is an hour and a half, ending around 8.30pm.

Does the discount have to be used against the book club title?

No! If it’s a book you already own, you can use your discount on any other book in the shop. Simply pop in with your proof of purchase and we can sort that for you.

Do I have to finish reading the book before coming along?

Ideally, but no! If you can’t, or don’t want to, finish the book, we still want to hear your thoughts. We will however spoil every aspect of the book during discussion.
